Val (Zelda Valeere) Sass' Obituary
Val Sass (Zelda Valeere) died peacefully at the age of 92 February 28, 2017 in Los Angeles after a valiant battle with dementia. Widow to Raymond Sass, beloved mother to Steven and Ronnee Sass, she is also survived by her two granddaughters, Felicia and Lauren and great granddaughters Danielle, Morgan and Miranda.
A Baltimore native and graduate of Forest Park High School, she was a good amateur artist, and had illustrated several books for her father, Dr. Robert Brotman, even as a teenager. Val was very instrumental in the success of Raymond’s Men’s Stores with several locations in the Baltimore area, including the 1st enclosed Mall in Maryland – Harandale. A practicing ‘Tiecologist’ she got great joy helping shoppers with those little extras that made a clothing gift all the more personal. While she latched on to computers and became a frequent correspondent with many, later years made that challenge too great, but she held on to the knowledge of what she had done.
She and late husband Raymond, moved to Boca Raton Florida in 1985. Val was a creative and prolific writer with a blog and 3000 stories to her credit. She wrote a charming book, and illustrated it all, called GROWING UP ZELABOP. [All proceeds went to children’s hospitals.]
A graveside service is scheduled for Sunday, 10:45 March 5 at Eternal Light Cemetery (11520 State Rd # 7 Boynton Beach Fla.)
Donations in her memory should be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: http://www.alz.org/
