James Sapirstein
Dear Marilyn, Len, Howie and all of the Oremlands,
I knew Alan most of my life and only have wonderful memories of him. I used to walk into 169 Merrymount and the air would fill of pipe smoke and classical music and I knew he was probably sitting in the middle of the room listening to his quadraphonic Marantz stereo, nodding his head, with eyes closed hoping Lenny and I would shut up and take Howie outside. He was always so good to Lenny's friends and he's the only dad that called me Sap. I remember asking about Mid Life crisis when he stepped out of his blue Datsun Z sports car and instead of answering me, he just said (with an unlit cigar in his mouth), "Don't you just love it?". He was a classic to say the least. He made us all laugh with his youthful spirit and gave me (at least) two great playmates in Howie and Lenny while I was growing up and a friend for life in Lenny. I guess this sounds a bit like a eulogy for Alan because I feel he deserves one from Lenny's friends who really liked him as he was such a positive role model for all of us growing up. He was definitely one of the good guys. Rest in Peace, Alan and I'm happy you're no longer in pain.
