I first met Bernie and Phyllis in the early 80’s. My then boyfriend Arthur, took me to meet them in Melville where they lived. Arthur had known Bernie and Phyliss since the 6th grade. They met when Bernie came to pick Phyllis up from school. Bernie and Arthur remained close friends for over 60 years. The four of us had wonderful times together, whether going to Washington DC or just hanging out in our homes.
In 2004, when we moved to Florida, the four of us picked up where we left off. When Phyliss passed away it was a sad time for us. Bernie would come to my house every Wednesday for dinner. He would always surprise us with a homemade gift, which it meant so much to us because it was made with love.
Bernie and I had a wonderful friendship. He taught me about the stock market and would say “Fran you need to do your research before buying a stock”. We would have delightful dinners together, making conversations about the old times, the NY jets, and how to make the world a better place.
This last year was very hard for him. However, he took it like he took all Life’s ups and downs like a champ! Somedays I pick up the phone to call him and he wasn't there. It makes me very sad. Bernie will be missed by all who loved him, and there were many.
Rest in peace my dear friend.
