Bernard "Bernie" Marx's Obituary
Bernie Marx, of Delray Beach Fl, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 26, 2023, just shy of his 91st birthday. A New Yorker with a tough guy exterior and a heart of gold behind it, he was known as a fisherman, mechanic, collector of everything, and storyteller extraordinaire. Growing up in NYC and Long Beach, NY he attended Dewitt Clinton High School, City College of New York, and the University of Miami. He eventually married the love of his life, Phyllis Koppelman, and after serving in the United States Army, went into business and raised his family of three sons in the Bronx and eventually Huntington, LI. Over the years, Bernie was involved in many facets of the New York ice cream business, most recently running a fleet of Majik Man mobile ice cream trucks with his son Robert, much to the delight of thousands of NYC kids and their parents. He always made time for his family and was prone to hour long conversations that ran the gamut from alligator spottings, to why the Jets can’t win, to national politics. He loved to go fishing with his brother and his buddy Jack, and whether it was a pond or the ocean he was happy just outsmarting those fish.
Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Jack Marx, his brother Ivan Marx, and the greatest catch of his fisherman life, his wife Phyllis Marx. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Vicky and Eric Marx, Kathy and Randy Marx, and Holly and Robert Marx as well as his brother and his wife , Harriet and Mel Marx. He also leaves behind his beautiful granddaughters Ashley and Rachel Marx, as well as grandsons Jake, Jack, Chris, Sam, and Evan Marx. He is also survived by his great granddaughter Amelia Marx, brand new great grandson Henry Marx, and his best friend for many years, Clementine, whose visits he cherished, and her parents Barbara and John. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
A memorial service will be held on Friday July 14th , 2023 at 3pm at the Beth Israel Chapel on Jog Rd in Boynton Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Faith Farm Ministries in Boynton Beach,.
