Nathaniel Wolf
I wrote this poem in honor of my Grandpa who passed recently.
Get By with Love and Peace
Grandpa, this is your poem you lived until ninety-three.
You shared such a deep love for your wife and family.
A joyful being with a sense of humor that many people recall and still treasure.
You were a compassionate person who left all that knew you feeling so better.
Memories on a chair waving while listening to sports through an old portable radio.
Always kept the family well fed because you had the most generous heart to show.
This is the poem you inspired me to write down with you in my mind and heart, so dear.
How I will always long to hug you one last time and draw us near.
All this sadness filled my heart as I shook and trembled with fear.
At your funeral I, plus relatives, shared fond memories with tears.
Silence as we all then dug dirt upon our shovels to fill up his casket.
As I left the funeral in the car, I held mourning not anyway to mask it.
Losing you taught me to cry, representing healing in defeat.
This poem is also for anyone that feels sad, angry, and beat.
I recall every moment with Grandpa and the family being full of joy.
He took us places we would cherish from the day I was a boy.
Spots like batting ranges, arcades, movies, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and mini golfing.
With him we shared love, peace, and a hope for a kinder world to us he means everything.
Although he lived as long as he could until his dying day.
Just like my father, and all my loved ones I lost, I wish I was okay.
Let this poem be a reminder that we are all mortal to relax and be thankful and calm.
