Gerald Allen Levine's Obituary
Gerald “Gerry” Levine, age 88, formerly of Corning, NY, and Boynton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully in Stuart, FL, on February 25, 2020.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife Beatrice "Bea" (nee Shapiro), children Michael (Kathy) Levine, Glenn (Carrie) Levine, Joan (Ken) Isman, Phyllis (Brian) Dennis, grandchildren Leah Levine, Joseph Levine, Connor Levine, Jared Dennis, Logan Dennis and great-grandchildren Isabella, Mary Ann, and Gabriella Levine, as well as his sister-in-law, Frederica Douglas, and many cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Lillian (Levy) and Joseph Levine, and his brother, Philip Levine.
Gerry and Bea met in Brooklyn as teenagers, were married immediately after his college graduation, and had celebrated their 67th anniversary in January.
He attended Brooklyn Technical High School, graduated from City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (1952), and earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park.
Gerry served as a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean War. After completing his army service, they lived in Silver Spring, MD, while he worked as an engineer for Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. Gerry and Bea moved to Corning, NY, where they raised their family and he worked for Corning Glass Works in roles of increasing responsibility in Process Research and Biotechnology, and eventually served as as President of Nutrisearch Corporation, a joint venture of Corning, Kroger and Eastman Kodak. They retired to Boynton Beach, FL ,where they lived for more than 30 years before moving to Stuart, FL this past year.
Gerry was very active in the communities in which he lived. He was a member of the Corning Rotary Club where he helped with Camp STAR for disabled children, and was Past President of Temple B’nai Israel in Elmira, NY. Upon retirement, Gerry increased his involvement with Veterans organizations including the Jewish War Veterans, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as Commander of the Boynton Beach Veterans Council which coordinated across all Veterans organizations. He shared his love of learning, business acumen, and leadership skills as a volunteer with the Senior Core of Retired Executives (SCORE), developed and delivered lectures at the Jewish Community Center in Boynton Beach, and served as Past President of his Home Owner's Association.
Gerry was an avid sailor, racing Lightning’s at Keuka Lake Yacht Club, then sailing his Mega 30 well into retirement. He loved reading, the NY Giants, and spending time with family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held for Gerry on March 13 at 11:00 am at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Boynton Beach, FL. The service will be followed by a ceremony at South Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerry’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
