Jacob Wolansky's Obituary
Dr. Jacob (Jack) Wolansky of Wellington, Florida, passed away on January 28, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born in 1929 in Bayonne, New Jersey and attended Bucknell University starting at age 16. He received his medical training at Hahnemann University Medical School and completed an anesthesiology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Following his medical training, he decided to serve his country and joined the US Navy with the rank of Captain, stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. Upon leaving the navy, he realized that he wanted to be more of a “thinking” doctor with lots of patient interaction, and completed an additional residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology, eventually establishing a private medical practice in Metuchen, New Jersey. During his 38 years of practice, Jack was known and loved by the entire Metuchen community, even serving as the school physician for the local middle school. After a brief period of retirement, he resumed his medical career in Florida for an additional 10 years, primarily serving and treating other Veterans.
Jack was passionate about golf, was a connoisseur of fine scotch, and loved to play bridge and take cruises with his beloved wife, Estelle. Jack was always joking with everyone, would make friends with complete strangers, and was known for his wonderful sense of humor and distinctive laugh. He was the adored husband of Estelle, to whom he was married for 64 wonderful years. He was the proud father of Jane Kelsey, Dr. Ben Wolansky, and Halley Gilbert, and was a loving grandfather to 8 wonderful grandchildren: Jenna, Steven, Adam, Cindy, Noah, Alexa, Jonah and JJ, and one great granddaughter, Margo.
