Judith Gershman's Obituary
Judy’s greatest achievements were being a mother, a grandmother, and a sister. Judith Gandell was born on July 18, 1927 in New York City. Fannie and Samuel Gandell raised her in Allentown, Pennsylvania, along with her two sisters Beulah Bishop and Renee Barson. The family moved to Hazleton, Pennsylvania where Judy developed her artistic skills. She attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn as an art major and was the first person in her family to go to college. Judy met Sidney Gershman at a dance in New York, and they married. They had three children, Barbara, Lori and Mitchell. Judy loved raising her family, however she was also determined to finish her college education. She spent eight years attending William Paterson College in New Jersey, completing her undergraduate degree and also earning her masters degree in art. She then became an art teacher. As the years passed, Judy immersed herself in the lives of her grandchildren. She had eight grandchildren: Shawn, Faith and Jacob, Benjamin and Sarah, Rachel, Jared and Abigail. She had two devoted sons-in-law, Stan and Fred. She also had loving relationships with her 15 nieces and nephews. She spent her retirement in Boynton Beach, Florida, and spent so many happy years passing time with her sisters, enjoying her gardening, cooking, and daily walks. Her close-knit family spent years together celebrating the holidays in Roslyn, NY, spending summers in the Hamptons, and her 80th birthday in the Outer Banks. Judy was a very lucky woman, fulfilling her dreams and always surrounded by the love of her family.
