Karyn A. Rosner's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Karyn Ann Rosner. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Long Island, and lived in various cities across Canada and the United States before finding her dream home in Boynton Beach, Florida. A devoted mother to Gayle (Gary) and Jason (Stephen) from her first marriage, Grandmother/Bubbie to Ella Grace, Zachary Louis, and Jacob Brody. She also leaves behind her husband, Peter Setliff, and his family (Greg, Julie, Alex & Vivian). Karyn had a full career as a teacher of the Deaf, was a cofounder of the Toronto International Deaf Film and Arts Festival which she was very proud of. She also went on to lead many other Deaf organizations and was very involved with both, the Deaf community and the Jewish Deaf community. She enjoyed many different hobbies including book club, Mah Jong, scrapbooking, volunteering, traveling, genealogy, and socializing with her friends, who were quite dear to her. Most recently, Karyn was awarded the prestigious Alumni Emeriti Club award celebrating the 50th anniversary of her graduation from Gallaudet University. She spent decades engaged in civic duties within various Deaf organizations and held many leadership positions and was a lifelong advocate for the rights of the Deaf community. She loved to sit in the lanai (“lania”) reading her books and watching the sunset. She will be remembered for her smile, love of hugs, her strength, her love for chocolate, her dogs and her zest for life. Karyn was a strong advocate for Deaf dogs and she had her own Deaf dog (Simba) whom she loved very much. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Deaf Dogs Rock, a non-profit organization that supports Deaf dogs through their website at:
