As Michael’s young cousin, I looked up to him as a popular cool guy. Unfortunately, not enough rubbed off and I remained a nerdy kid. But, years later he gave me transformative advice.
Margie and Michael visited our then home in Boston on one of their trips to see Mark and his family. After dinner, we sat at my computer where Michael demonstrated some tricks in Photoshop that were way over my head. He salvaged an otherwise nice picture of my wife by delicate maneuvers near her nostrils.
During the session, he noticed that I looked uncomfortable with neck pain. He asked why the monitor was so high, and I could only answer that it came out of the box at that height. I knew Margie and he were in the furniture business but was surprised when he gave me a thoughtful analysis of ergonomics at the keyboard. He adjusted the monitor’s height, and my 20+ years of neck pain vanished.
