Miriam Movitz's Obituary
Miriam Movitz, 89, of Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, Florida passed away Tuesday January 24, 2017, seven months after her husband, Raymie. Formerly of Brooklyn, New York, Miriam came to Florida in 1989 with her husband Albert “Raymie” Movitz. They were married for 65 years until Raymie’s death in 2016. Miriam, daughter of Irving and Gussie Landau who came from Russia in the early 1900’s, graduated from Tilden H.S. Brooklyn, New York in Jan. 1945. Miriam then graduated from Brooklyn College in 1949 and became a proud NYC school teacher for over 30 years at P.S. 251 in Brooklyn. She was immensely proud of her career and always boasted that she was a “school teacher for over 30 years”. She enjoyed travel with her husband, Raymie mostly in Europe. They enjoyed visiting museums and attending lectures. Nature and theater were their passion. They had a very full life together and Miriam was the caregiver for her husband in his later years. They moved from their Bridge View condo in Delray Beach to Windward Palms in Boynton Beach when their needs required. They visited their son, Neil in Colorado often, and their son, Mark in Short Hills, N.J. Anyone who knew Miriam, thought of her as strong and loving. She had many dear friends who miss her greatly. Miriam was a strong and vivacious lady. Miriam was the beloved mother of Neil (Laurie) Movitz and the late Mark Movitz (Betty); the loving grandmother of Justin Movitz; and the dear mother-in-law of Laurie Stiles and Betty (Simon Solomon) Movitz. Chapel services were January 26, 2017 at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Rd., Boynton Beach, Florida 33437 followed by interment in South Florida National Cemetery. Rabbi Stephen Pinsky officiated. Those wishing to honor Miriam with a memorial contribution are asked to kindly consider the Commission for Jewish Education, 4601 Community Drive, West Palm Beach, Florida 33417
