I was blessed to call Muriel my friend. I brought my kids to her home in San Diego when they were 5. She immediately told me things about my son that would change the trajectory of my relationship with him for the next 30 years. I will be eternally grateful for her wisdom, love, support and kindness over the years.
During the years we had many phone conversations that lasted well over an hour. She was a brilliant, insightful woman who helped me learn more about myself that I had ever known. Following up with what her granddaughter said at the service this morning, she never lost the opportunity to tell me that I was a wonderful husband, father and son. There were many times I was so grateful for her calming thoughtful words of praise. While sometimes I felt the compliments were a bit misguided I loved to hear them. She always seemed to know when I needed them the most. Life is funny. One never knows where and when you will get true love and support.
Sometimes a friend can become family because their love and support is so real. That's what Muriel will always mean to me. The world was and is a better place because Muriel Cornblath was in it.
