Muriel G Cornblath's Obituary
Muriel G. Cornblath, 98, passed away peacefully at home in Boynton Beach, Florida on July 6, 2023 surrounded by family. Muriel was preceded in death by her husband Irving, in 1998. She is survived by five children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and their spouses and three great grandchildren. Her children are David (Deborah Lieberman) of Baltimore, MD; Gary of New York, NY; Dana of Boca Raton, FL; Glen (Marci Koblenz) of Evanston, IL; and Wayne (Barbara) of Ann Arbor, MI. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Sarah (Brian Weiner), Jacob (Mallory Harney), and Sam (Jen Tartuvall); Kayla, Tali (Paul Van Wagenen), Torey, and Louisa (Kat Clancy); Eli (Neha Mukunda) and Max; and cherished by stories and memories to her great-grandchildren Oliver and Alex Weiner and Noa Van Wagenen.
Muriel was born on February 3, 1925 in New York City to Louis and Helen Grossfield. She lived-in several apartments on the Upper West Side until settling at 359 Fort Washington Ave., in Washington Heights. She enjoyed a childhood of horse riding lessons in Central Park, weekend shopping trips with a beloved aunt to the finest stores, and summer trips in Asbury Park, NJ. She attended Radcliffe College, graduated from Barnard and then earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology at Columbia University. In the winter of 1948, she met Irving, the love of her life, on Miami Beach. They married in August of 1949, then moved to St. Louis where Irving operated several well known retail apparel stores. Muriel devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother and friend while pursuing her intellectual interests. Their home was filled with antiques she found at stores she frequented, finding joy when she could capture the gem item with her keen eye for detail.
