Today, my heart is heavy as I reflect on the profound impact that Philip Sperling had on my life. While it's never easy to find the right words in times like these, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the incredible friend that Philip was.
Philip intentionally sought me out for the mere reason that we attended the same high school decades ago and he was visiting the town that I lived, Bowling Green, KY. As a jewish kid from the Bronx he never mixed words and I as a Puerto Rican kid from the bronx stood beside him. In the decade that we got to know each other he shared his loved of football, his incredible Bronxness and his big brother like wisdom. One morning years ago he told me about his battle. He was and still is as tough as they come. Philip had this remarkable ability to make every moment count, to tell it like it is and then some, and to turn ordinary days into extraordinary ones.
I'm grateful for the memories I hold on to - the conversations, the adventures, and even the quiet moments of reflection. Philip, you taught me so much about the beauty of friendship, resilience, and the importance of cherishing every single day.
As we navigate the profound sadness of your passing, I find solace in the knowledge that your memory will forever live on in our hearts. Your kindness, your laughter, and your enduring spirit will continue to inspire us to be better friends, better people and if nothing else Bronx boys.
Today, I'm reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of showing gratitude for the people who touch our lives in profound ways. Philip, thank you for being that in my life. You'll be dearly missed, but your memory will forever brighten our days.
